5 Ways to Improve Your Writing Speed and Quality

  • Comments Off on 5 Ways to Improve Your Writing Speed and Quality

As a full-time blogger, you need a consistent stream of content to attract (and retain) an audience. Since we are all crunched for time, learning how to write faster is essential to your success. However, writing fast doesn’t mean sacrificing the quality of your blog post to hit the deadline. Instead, if done well, fast writing can make the difference between a productive project and one that fizzles out.

If you want your readers to keep coming back for more, you need to become a faster writer and create more quality content. But how can you teach yourself to write quickly? Here are five helpful tips to improve your writing speed without reducing the quality of your writing.

1. Write every day

To improve your writing speed, you need to practice every day. The more you write and exercise your writing muscles, the more you boost your writing speed and quality.

As a first step, you’ll want to incorporate writing into your daily routine and set a goal that’s easy for you to achieve. For example, you can start by deciding to write 200 to 500 words every day or write for 15-20 minutes. What’s important is you should strive and meet the goal every day until you get better.

2. Start with an outline

The outline will serve as the structure of your post. It will help you organize your thoughts and construct ideas in a sequential manner and thoughtful flow. With an outline, you can see how far you’ve got and how far you need to go, which helps keep you motivated. It also speeds up your writing because when you know what you need to cover, you don’t have to wonder what to write next.

3. Write in whichever order you want

Once you have your outline, you can write in whichever section you want. When writing your article, you don’t have to start from the introduction down to the conclusion. Allow yourself the flexibility to jump around the sections of your post and tackle whichever interests you the most. You might want to tackle the more challenging parts first so that the rest will be much easier. Or, you might want to go for the simple sections first and move your way up to the trickier parts of the post.

4. Don’t edit while you’re writing

You can’t edit your work as you write them. It will only slow you down. When you keep rewriting your sentences and fixing your typos, you’ll be stuck editing over the same few sentences without making any progress. Editing while writing is another example of multitasking, which reduces your ability to focus and your productivity. To increase your writing speed, try to draft a full article before you go back to edit.

5. Set a firm deadline

While bloggers don’t have editors to wait for their work, they do have to keep their readers and supporters engaged. When you have a deadline to meet, it forces you to stay focused and prevents you from procrastination. Improve your writing speed by challenging yourself to write a blog post within the deadline you set for yourself. Some writers learn how to write fast when they’re under pressure.

Conclusion

Regardless of the level of expertise or years of experience, every writer will have varying writing speeds. But if you want to be a successful writer, you’ll have to learn the skill of writing faster without compromising the quality. And yes, speed writing is a skill that gets better and easier with regular practice. Even the most successful bloggers had to learn their craft by practicing every single day. So, what are you waiting for? Open your laptops and get to writing!
