9 Essential Things You Should Do To Become A Solopreneur

  • Comments Off on 9 Essential Things You Should Do To Become A Solopreneur

The road to becoming a solopreneur is tough but exciting. Maybe you’re thinking of leaving your 9-5 job to start a business around a passion. Before you do, you need to learn the right steps to turn your vision into reality. Here are my top tips for you:

Envision your business identity

What is your business going to be? Is it consumer products? Is it of the tech industry? Visualize the future of your business. This will help you have a solid goal and foundation for your business. Most importantly, you’ll be able to know how you can improve the lives of the people you’ll serve.

Plan your business

Don’t go to the battlefield without a strategy. This will help you be armed and ready. As yourself, “What are you going to do to reach your goal?” Write what down. You can even use a motivational quote as a home screen and wallpaper on your phone. Expect that things will have a chance not going the way they’re supposed to be. Anticipate challenges along the way so you can come up with a backup plan.

Set a budget

Financial limitations and control should always be kept on the mind. Never give everything even when your calculations are sure. Every element of your business should be given fair funding. Always leave some for an emergency and yourself.

Start now and don’t wait for opportunities all the time

People who wait for the “perfect opportunity” end up achieving nothing. Opportunities are unpredictable. They can happen or not happen at all. So, if you have an idea, a passion, and a plan then start now. Use the 1-2-3 trick to fight laziness and procrastination. Count one.. two.. three! Then do what needs to be done. If you’re really passionate about being a solopreneur then follow that fiery passion and strike whilst the iron is hot.

Build your brand and amp it up

Get a good brand name. Something catchy with a pun or wordplay. Be bold. Choose a brand name that makes people curious about your story. Next, do what you can to promote yourself. Advertise. Start a blog to show your expertise and mastery about your business. Claim a digital space for your brand. Don’t undervalue the purpose of emailing. It is a leading tool for written communication. Have an email signature and include everything important about yourself and for your business there. Remind and inform people about what you do and other ways you can be contacted.

Have an extra life

A solopreneur is not necessarily busy especially when one starts. Don’t live in an all-solopreneur life and have too much extra time. You can start your brand while you’re employed or being a student. Having an extra life besides being a solopreneur will save you from an emotional void or depression if the business fails.

Learn and experience

Attend local events and major conferences. Read books about business and related topics. Watch Ted Talks and listen to anything and anyone for ideas in the world of solopreneurship. Well, it’s not just necessarily all business but also about things that can help you improve your lifestyle and you as a person. You can also apply what you’ve learned, experiment and observe through doing pro bono projects. A lot of things happen when you go beyond your comfort zone.

Stand out

You’re not the only solopreneur out there. The competition is very real and you have to be noticed for your brand to be sold. Do or say something that creates positive chatter.

Outsource and don’t do it all

If you bury yourself in a lot of work you will be stressed or burnt out. Hire people for help. You might hire someone who is better at something that you are. Having a helping hand increases productivity and makes your job be less stressful.
