Sitting at a Desk All Day? Here’s How to Stay Healthy as an Entrepreneur

  • Comments Off on Sitting at a Desk All Day? Here’s How to Stay Healthy as an Entrepreneur

Entrepreneurs usually spend their days answering phone calls, reading reports, and attending one-on-one meetings. Since these things happen simultaneously, you may not have a choice but to sit all day at your desk.

This results in more stress, which compromises your overall health. This doesn’t always have to be this way, though. Taking breaks and pausing from work can do wonders for your physical and mental well-being.

That said, there are many ways you can remain physically fit despite your busy schedule. Here are six tips to help you stay healthy and reduce the stressors that come with being an entrepreneur.

1. Take walks during lunch breaks

Maximize your lunchtime by taking a short walk. You can walk alone or do it with a coworker. If there are food hubs nearby, you may opt to take a walk and have your lunch there. Otherwise, you can eat your lunch in the office and take a walk afterward. Walking will not only keep you healthy, but it can also help improve your digestion.

2. Stretch your muscles

No matter how busy you are, practice stretching some muscles now and then. Stretching your muscles will help promote proper blood circulation and reduce sleepiness during work. There are many quick ways to move your muscles while sitting at your desk. You can either it straight and slowly rotate your neck clockwise and counter-clockwise to stretch your neck or try raising your arms up, reaching high, and slowly lower your abdomen part as you stretch your spine.

Your back and neck area can benefit a lot from these two stretching exercises. Look for easy videos on stretching on Youtube for more inspiration.

3. Use the stairs

We want convenience at all costs. If your office is on higher floors, you’re more likely to use elevators to save time and energy. However, taking the stairs may be more beneficial to your health. Try to use the stairs and learn to enjoy them. It may take a little patience and practice, but you will soon appreciate its benefits the more you do it. And while using the stairs may cause you to sweat a little, it enhances your heart and lung function and improves your blood circulation.

4. Take breaks and relax

Working nonstop leads to more stress and burnout. Taking a break and relaxing reduces some of the pressures at work. Doing something that will take your mind off work, even for a moment, is vital for your mental health.

For example, you could get yourself a coffee and relax, or you could take time chatting with coworkers and friends about things that make you happy. Even walking to the bathroom every time you feel the urge to urinate can be a form of relaxation.

5. Why not stand?

Sitting at your desk all day can be tiresome, especially when done almost every day for a week. It will even result in body fatigue and back pains. That said, why not try standing from time to time. For instance, you can stand up when answering a call or when having a short conversation with someone. Standing can be a form of exercise and doing this many times a day will engage your muscles and keep you active.

6. Stay active after work

The human body needs exercise or any form of activity to keep it fit. Try to engage in sports such as badminton, basketball, or even bowling. Go to the gym and sweat out. You can also go for a walk with your spouse or pets and enjoy the evening. Discover other fun activities that will help you stay active and healthy after work.

Conclusion

Entrepreneurs have busy schedules and tend to focus all their attention at work. They show commitment, dedication, and hard work, causing them to be glued to their desk all day. While you need all these qualities to achieve success, you shouldn’t overdo them and end up compromising your health.

The best way you can truly enjoy your success is to prioritize your physical and mental well-being. So, take a step back from work, apply the six tips in this article, and stay healthy.
