6 Things to Remember When You’re Feeling Anxious at Work

  • Comments Off on 6 Things to Remember When You’re Feeling Anxious at Work

Where we work can significantly influence our mood and feelings. Constant work pressure, tight deadlines, and different coworkers’ personalities can all contribute to our anxiety. While you can try telling yourself to stop worrying when you’re worried, it doesn’t always work.

It’s important to acknowledge your anxieties and find ways to keep yourself engaged, motivated, and inspired. When you’re feeling anxious at work, these six reminders help wash your worries away.

1. Practice self-care

Work can be too overwhelming that it eventually makes you feel anxious. It’s easy to get stressed with deadlines and deliverables. When this happens, practice self-care by doing something that makes you feel relaxed. It can be through eating your favorite snack, listening to your favorite song, getting a hot stone massage at the spa salon, or chatting with your best friend for a while. Taking care of yourself is crucial in alleviating your anxiety.

2. Find time to exercise

Doing a quick exercise relaxes your mind and energizes your body. Consider taking a break, even for 10 minutes, and walking outside your office room. If you’re on the second floor and up, use the stairs and clear your mind by walking. If you can’t take a quick break because there are too many things to do, you can just stretch your muscles while working. If you have spare time, go to the gym and work out after office hours. It’ll help you destress and keep you fit at the same time.

3. Take a day off for your mental health

Feeling anxious at work most of the time is no longer healthy. When you feel burnout and your mental health is affected, take a day off from work. Prioritize your mental health by taking a vacation or spending time with your loved ones. Since we all have different ways to keep rested and relaxed, do what makes you happy.

You may go out to see your friend, watch movies, stroll around the mall, go shopping, or visit a salon. For some people, a day off from work means cleaning the house and doing laundry, and that’s okay. You can always do whatever you want to keep you sane and cope with work stress. The goal of this rest day is to recharge and get back to work feeling renewed and ready to be productive again.

4. Talk to your trusted officemate

Overwork can sometimes lead to anxiety. It happens when you feel you can’t handle everything in your hands. When it feels too much to bear and you start to panic, talk to someone you trust. You don’t have to keep it to yourself. Communicate your feelings well and try to release your worries. You may feel relieved and unburdened afterward.

5. Celebrate your small wins

There is nothing wrong with celebrating your small achievement at work. Acknowledging your effort in carrying out your tasks by yourself can keep you motivated. Don’t hesitate to reward yourself when you can submit your report before the deadline. Rewards can be in the form of eating your comfort food or buying the stuff you want. Such a kind gesture to yourself will lessen your anxiety attacks and boost your confidence at work.

6. Seek professional help

If you have frequent anxiety attacks that result in sleepless nights, overthinking, and loss of appetite, seek professional help. When your anxiety is making you unproductive at work, visit a psychiatrist. Your struggles are not your own. Seeking assistance in reducing your anxiety level is an important step toward overcoming it.

Conclusion

A certain amount of pressure in the workplace is sometimes necessary for your individual growth and development. While feeling anxious is normal, too much or chronic anxiety is bad for your health and well-being.

When your anxiety starts to affect your focus and productivity at work, you need to do something about it. These six reminders can help reduce your worries so you can continue experiencing more breakthroughs and create a happier life.
