How to Become a Morning Person (And Why It Matters)

Some solopreneurs prefer starting the day at 5:00 AM while some are night owls. I know that many night owls are intimidated by the proverb, “The early bird catches the worm,” because success is a personal thing, right? What works for one may not work for another. You get what I mean.

But science tells us that our bodies are designed to wake up when the sun shines and sleep when it gets dark. Also, there are many compelling reasons why one should try to become a morning person. If you want to know what they are and how you can start being one, read this guide.

Why Become a Morning Person?

It’s Practical

The world wakes up in the morning. Stores open at 9:00 AM. Your kid goes to school. The streets are busy. It’s difficult to have a quality sleep when everybody else is awake. Try to fall asleep at around 10 and your mom calls you. Or a package arrived.

Eat Breakfast

So you’re okay with not having breakfast. But remember the fact that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It balances your blood sugar levels so that you think better, move better, and feel better. Skipping breakfast increases your risk for weight gain and diabetes.

Morning Exercise and Consistency

A sweat session before the sun rises is a perfect way to stay up all day. You have more energy to perform your solopreneur duties, boost your immune system, and manage your weight! Studies also show that people who workout in the morning are likely to make it a habit.

How a Solopreneur Can Become a Morning Person

Create a nighttime routine that helps you get ready for bed.

Have a soothing routine that calms you down and readies your mind and body for bedtime. Play a soft instrumental music in the background. Drink a cup of chamomile tea. Stop answering work emails. Turn off your gadgets.

Let natural light shine in.

Exposure to natural light is a simple method to feel alert in the morning – even if you don’t drink coffee. Natural light suppresses melatonin, a hormone that peaks at nighttime. Make sure to open the curtains during daytime. Get outside to have a walk or just stretch!

Bribe yourself!

Motivate yourself to wake up with bribery. Think about something you would consider a reward. That could be a book, puppy, or gym membership. Rewards help build anticipation and make the journey to becoming a morning person a pleasant one.

Move the alarm across the room.

Place the alarm as far from your bed as possible so that you’re forced to get up. This is an age-old trick to stop hitting snooze. Hitting snooze won’t help in the first place because once you hear the alarm go off, your sleep is already interrupted.

Plan creative projects.

One of the best things about mornings (when everyone else is still sleeping) is that you have extra time to do creative work. Maybe write a blog post, do journaling, indulge in a hobby – anything that makes you happy. Consider any creative work you’ve been putting off. Know that you’ll finally be able to do it before preparing breakfast.

It will take some time before you can become a morning person. Take it easy. You can tweak the methods we discussed to suit your needs. I promise you that being a morning person is worth it.
