How to Listen to Your Body and Give It the Care It Needs

  • Comments Off on How to Listen to Your Body and Give It the Care It Needs

We move so fast these days, are preoccupied with our busy schedules, that we rarely take time to pay attention to our bodies. How are you feeling inside? Are you physically tired? Mentally exhausted? How is your mood? Do you lack energy?

Listening to your body is an important aspect of self-care. It is about slowing down to really notice if your plans are in line with what your body needs at the moment. By understanding how your body feels, you can make a decision that meets its needs.

If you listen to your body, you’ll be able to deal with stress healthily, find balance in your life, and always feel your best! Here are some techniques that you can use to connect with yourself.

How to Listen to Your Body

If you feel tired, do less – or stop.

As a highly motivated person, you might feel guilty of not giving your maximum energy to a project or workout. Let your energy levels be your guide. Take them as a sign to keep pushing or go easier on yourself for that moment. Slow down or stop to take a rest!

What would you tell a friend to do?

Imagine sitting down with a close friend, and your friend telling you that her back hurts. Would you encourage her to still attend that gym class on her way home? Or will you suggest resting instead? Sometimes, we are better at taking care of others than ourselves. The next time you are not sure about whether you should pause or not, think about the advice you would give to someone you care about.

Plan for your future needs.

Take some time to evaluate what your body needs on a long-term basis. Ask yourself, “What can I do for myself that will help me thrive?” Think about simple actions that will truly improve your happiness, productivity, and inner peace.

  • Do you need to add more movement into your day?
  • Do you need to avoid caffeine in the afternoon or close to bedtime?
  • Do you need to sneak a power nap at work?
  • Do you need to start saying NO and stop feeling rejected?
  • Do you need to schedule a day with yourself?

Choose the most important thing that you know your soul craves, and make it your mission to fulfill it.

Mindfulness is key. Increasing your awareness of your body will enable you to respect it. It’s the only place you’ll have to live in for the rest of your life! Whether you are a solopreneur, mom, dad, or anyone who needs more self-care, follow the tips above. Every moment is an opportunity to check in with yourself. Know when to push and when to recover.
