Micro Workouts: What Are They and Why They’re Great for Your Solopreneur Lifestyle

  • Comments Off on Micro Workouts: What Are They and Why They’re Great for Your Solopreneur Lifestyle

It’s scientifically proven that regular physical activity keeps us healthy. However, as business owners, we can find it challenging to spend time at least once a week to play sports or exercise due to the number of tasks we need to deal with on a daily basis.

Sometimes it can make us wonder if being a solopreneur is good for our health. Don’t. The good news is, you can still stay fit even when you’re busy in your office, workshop, or living room through micro workouts. Know more about them below.

What are Micro Workouts?

Micro workouts are strength or cardio training moves that can be done in seconds or minutes. They can be unstructured or structured. But most of the time, they’re inserted into the mundane moments of your day such as waiting for your email to be sent, coffee to be brewed, or your kids to be done bathing.

3 Benefits of Micro Workouts for Solopreneurship

1. Micro workouts save money and time for weight loss

Because they can be done anywhere at any time, micro workouts help you save money by avoiding a gym membership or equipment purchase. In terms of saving time, you don’t need to put on any athletic apparel and finish an hour-long session. You can sweat out and lose weight while wearing workplace clothing or pajamas in 10 minutes or less.

2. Quicker muscle recovery time

Unlike structured exercise routines in which you’ll need to push your limits every session, micro workouts aren’t intense. You won’t experience painful and paralyzing muscle soreness the next day. You might feel some discomfort. But they won’t interfere with your solopreneur tasks.

3. Better strength and endurance

Our mental and physical strength and endurance decline as we age. This is why we notice that we can’t spend as much time working as we did when we were younger. But by doing micro workouts daily, you’ll build physical and mental power that would allow you to sit in front of a computer or craft sellable items for longer hours.

3 Examples of Micro Workouts

1. Stair calf raises

Do you work in a shared office space? And is your favorite spot on a higher floor? Skip the elevator and take the stairs. As you go up, do calf raises for every 5 steps. This is a great exercise to warm your body and mind before you sit down and handle your tasks.

2. Waiting push-ups

Pushup to any activity that takes time or is experiencing an unfixable delay. Waiting for your smoothie to blend? Do push-ups. Paint hasn’t dried on the wood yet? Do push-ups. Business email still on “sending” status? Do push-ups.

3. Downtime tricep dips

At times there are no customers in your shop and you have nothing urgent to do but can’t leave yet, get a stable chair and do some tricep dips. It’s an effective workout for increasing your upper body strength — something you’ll need if you want to transfer stocks without any help.

The greatest challenge of incorporating micro workouts into your daily solopreneur routine is your mindset towards fitness. You might be conscious or find it awkward to suddenly exercise in the middle of an activity. The trick is not to think about it. Just focus on doing. Reserve the thinking portion to whether you should do another micro workout or not.
